The Fellowship

modeDURABLE is an intensive and hands-on fellowship designed to educate and empower media professionals with the knowledge, tools and skills they need to effectively inform the public on the environmental and social impacts of the fashion, beauty and lifestyle industries and the myriad challenges - and opportunities - that exist.

The need

Fashion remains one of the key ways that society demonstrates success and communicates lifestyle preferences and ethical principles. Our clothing holds a powerful place in people’s imaginations and desires, and the unique ability to change how people express themselves and understand the world. As one of the planet’s largest industries, most populous employers, and drivers of environmental degradation, fashion has an outsized role to play in defining and deploying a vision of the future that is sustainable.

However, inaccuracies in reporting and misinformation about the industry abound. The media dialogue is dominated by big global brands, with big PR budgets, with journalists unable to sufficiently challenge the greenwash they are presented in daily press releases.

Consumers, meanwhile, are overwhelmed by the confusing and contradictory information they are presented with, leaving them feeling powerless to create change through their purchases. There is a need for clarity to cut through the noise.

That’s where modeDURABLE comes in.

the course

modeDURABLE will be held at the School of Fashion at Parsons in New York. We offer an intensive training fellowship centered on an innovative day-long curriculum including reporting workshops, lectures from subject matter experts, brainstorms with editors, and feedback from seasoned journalists. Fellows will leave prepared to create content around sustainable fashion, further supported by post-fellowship resources that include introductions to innovative brands and designers, exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into fashion’s future, access to a trusted database of fact-checked data, and inclusion in a unique network that will accelerate Fellows' green bona fides. The Fellowship is free to attend and expenses will be covered by modeDurable, including room, board, and airfare to NYC.

hands-on experience

Fellows will spend one day attending classes, discussions, panels, and workshops at the School of Fashion at Parsons. For those who can join, we offer an optional second day offsite visiting local manufacturers in Upstate New York to see the process of clothing production first-hand while applying the skills learned the day prior. Having completed the training, fellows will be ready to hit the ground running to deliver accurate, informative and - most crucially - important sustainability stories.
